Biography
Cat Saterson is a doctoral student in the joint program in Classics and Comparative Literature. Her research focuses on literature, religion, and ritual in ancient Greco-Roman and Haitian contexts. Her dissertation will focus on classical reception, namely comparisons between ancient Greco-Roman gods and Haitian spirits, in La Légende des Loa: Vodou Haïtien [The Legend of the Lwa: Haitian Vodou] by the Haitian artist, intellectual, and Vodou initiate Déita. Prior to her current program of study, she taught Latin at George Jackson Academy in New York City. For her senior thesis as an undergraduate at Princeton University, she produced translation-adaptations of elegies by the ancient Roman poets Propertius, Tibullus, Ovid, and Sulpicia, a project for which she received the Department of Classics’ John J. Keaney Prize and the Lewis Center for the Arts’ Samuel Shellabarger Memorial Prize in Creative Writing.
