André Alexis’s 2016 novel The Hidden Keys was inspired by the classic adventure tale Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. This wide-ranging discussion, moderated by curator of Modern Books and Manuscripts Timothy Young, will feature selections from the Beinecke’s trove of Stevenson material.

Timothy Young is curator of Modern Books and Manuscripts at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library. While focusing on literary and intellectual avant garde movements of the past two centuries, he also oversees specialized components of the library’s collections including social movements, economic history, and children’s literature. He is the author or editor of several books, the most recent being the edited volumes The Uncollected David Rakoff (2015) and Story Time: Essays on American Children’s Literature from the Betsy Beinecke Shirley Collection (2016). He contributes regularly to the Yale Review, writing on music and books.
