Outline of a Theory of Black Anxiety

Xavier Lee offers a framework for reading anxiety as the result of the imposition of the ontological category of “Black” through racial violence. Offering an overview of the various theories of anxiety in the fields of psychoanalysis and phenomenology, he applies anxiety to the study of Black social ontology in literature in order to better understand the impact of racial trauma in the perception of the racialized self.
